Roadmap
Establishing a Roadmap
First find a basic unit. In most cases it will be a simple 4/4 measure. Then just decide on some parts of some length in these units. The basic one may have 5 parts of 2, 4, 2, 4, 2 measures. And consider this as a guidance for otherwise free improvisational performance. It's a format that everyone should be aware of when jamming, so that the sync in this one particular part of music, we can be so much more creative and free in improv.
